Davenport, Bridge fuel Coeur d’Alene’s sweep of Lake City
“A pair of freshmen came up big as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings swept the Lake City Timberwolves 8-1 and 5-1 in Inland Empire League softball Tuesday at Lake City to remain tied for first place in the league.
Jenna Davenport pitched a pair of complete games for Coeur d’Alene, striking out 12 in the opener and nine in the nightcap.
“She pitched phenomenal,” Coeur d’Alene coach Bobbi Darretta said. “She’s been working hard at figuring out her mechanics, and she pitched fantastic. I’m getting to the point where if one pitcher is doing well, leave them in until they start to burn out.”
Gugino, Pratt go deep as Lake City, Coeur d'Alene split
“Freshman Jenna Davenport struck out 10 in 5.1 innings of relief in the opener, then fanned seven and scattered three hits in a five-inning win in the nightcap.
“Jenna came in and finished the (first) game strong, and she did fantastic the next game,” Darretta said. “If those walks (early in the first game) don’t happen, that entire game would have changed. I’m really proud of my girls; they’re scrappy, and they never give up.”
Davenport, Knutson lead Coeur d'Alene to third straight regional title
"Jenna Davenport is referred to as a “bulldog” by her coach, Bobbi Darretta, and on Tuesday the Coeur d’Alene High freshman showed why.
After striking out nine in a complete-game victory in the first game earlier Tuesday, Davenport watched the start of the championship game of the 5A Region 1 softball tournament from the dugout.
But when junior Leah Nordman, who started the title game, left after taking a hard smash off her right (pitching) forearm in the third inning, Davenport returned to the circle and completed the job for the day.
Davenport pitched 4.2 innings of one-run relief, and sophomore Morgan Knutson drove in three runs and made a terrific catch in right field, as top-seeded Coeur d’Alene beat third-seeded Lewiston 7-4 at Coeur d’Alene High’s Larry Schwenke Field for the Vikings’ third straight regional title.
“I’m always ready to come in,” said Davenport, whose Vikings beat fourth-seeded Post Falls 9-5 in the opener at CHS. “But I’m always cheering for Leah to the last second, right?”
And when Nordman got hurt?
“It’s my turn,” Davenport said. “Both of us have the ability to finish a game. I was ready to go after it; I really wanted it. It (adrenaline) kinda takes over. It’s usually the next day you feel tired and sore, but during the moment it’s just really exciting.”

All the right moves — Position changes, freshmen stepping up have propelled Coeur d’Alene back to state in softball
“Kyndal’s incredible,” Viking freshman pitcher Jenna Davenport said. “She’s got amazing frames; I can’t do it without her.”
Davenport started the year at first base when she wasn’t pitching, but to keep her pitchers fresh, Darretta brought up freshman Maddy Pratt from JV and put her at first, while still keeping Jenna Davenport's bat in the lineup as a DH. Davenport is the daughter of Patti (Stranger) Davenport, who went on to play at Whitworth. "My mom has been my coach for so many years, for travel ball," Jenna said, "And the coolest thing about it is, while she's my coach, she does a great job of being my mom during the moment. She's super supportive all the time. Her biggest things is, she always says, 'Do you know how much I love you?' She always reminds me of that, and its so puppotive because it just keeps me going."
